It is believed that the more clutter there is in your house, the less at peace you will feel. One of the most cluttered places in the house definitely has to be the closet. We use this space everyday (usually while in a hurry). Here are a few ideas to keep this space clutter free so you’ll never have to waste time untangling a necklace again!
Detoxing is a great way for you to rid your body of toxins. Do the same for your closet by taking everything out before you begin your organization project. When you take every single item out, you’ll realise which items you haven’t used in a while and need to throw away and which items you totally forgot you had but would look soo great with your new shoes.
S hooks are great for holding up shower curtains but these little babies have more to them than meets the eye. They are a great way to hang jeans in your closet (if you are the type who like to have their jeans displayed). But an even better use for them is to hang your precious bags!
Using dividers really helps to minimise any mess that’s created during our “getting ready” storm. It also lets us find what we need without much effort. You can use it for jewellery or smaller clothing items like socks.
Boxes are a great way to divide and store items that you don’t require on a daily basis. A great way to ensure your unwanted clothes don’t pile up is by creating a “donation” box that you can keep in the closet itself. This way when you try on an item and it doesn’t fit or you don’t like the style anymore, you can place it in the donation box and avoid clutter. It’s also a good idea to create a “lost” box for items that you only find one part of such as socks. This way when you find the other parts you can put them together and use them again.
The bulky sweaters and gloves you bought for that one trip to New Zealand are no longer useful in this eternal Singapore summer weather. However these items were pretty expensive and you may need them again for another vacation. Avoid getting these items mixed up with your daily wear by storing them away in a drawer or box. This allows your daily essentials to be at arm’s reach without anything else coming in between.
Organising based on categories is a great way to ensure you find what you need without wasting too much time going through a pile of useless stuff. You can categorise based on colour, size, activity used in or type of garment.
Instead of dedicating a drawer to items like underwear and socks use these dividers. Maximise your vertical space by storing your underwear or socks in a hanging divider, making space for other items in the drawer.
You could also use old wine racks to store clutches. This keeps them from getting lost as well as gives you an excuse to show off all your branded items.
Pegboards aren’t just a way to organise your daily meetings and sticky notes, they are also great for organizing jewellery. Just hang your necklaces on and you won’t have to worry about detangling a necklace again.
Use this trick of using a soda can tab to double your hanger capacity while halving the space used up.
Do you have 3-4 neckpieces that you tend to switch up throughout the week? Putting these necklaces away in the jewellery box can be such a daunting task everyday; so you tend to keep them just lying around on top of the dresser. Why not attach hooks or rods to the side of your closet and hang them there for a tangle-free easy-to-find experience every morning. You can also hang sunglasses, scarves or belts. Soo many functions, soo little required space!
The best way to de-clutter is to find an organization method that suits you best. It makes it easier for you to find the essential items without creating a mess when things are perfectly organised.
